Gilded Opulence has taken over designer wear collections this Fall 2010 season. There is a great mix w
ith baroque rock and roll, the richness of sensual and deep colours, world influences and sharp structure to make fantasy-style evening looks.
Some styles more wearable than others, the resurgence of richness and luxury is surely an influence of the post recession climate. Often, fashion takes its cues from socio-political events and this style surely has something to say.
Strong women, severe angles and boldness of colour really make this trend. Check out collections such as Balmin, John Galliano, Lanvin, Missoni, the wonderful Alexander McQueen and Etro to see this style. Check out the images above to get a feel for the look! Featured above are designers from their Fall 2010 collections: Anna Sui, Alexander McQueen, Pucci, and Balmain.
To Get The Look
This look is so rooted in vintage! Look for 80's sequined jackets, embrace the sharp shoulders- even should pads! Long upholstery printed coats and heavy
rich fabrics (think wine, emerald, gold) and then play with sequins and studs to get the rock chic. These styles were present in every era and piecing them together is half the fun.
Check out the photo of Skye, shot at Model Citizens by Adam Penney. We had a bit of fun with an 80's sequined jacket to play on this kind of look. You don't need to go head first in the style, you can take quick moments of it to make it more wearable.
