In praise of menswear (on ladies)

Some of us slow pokes here at Model Citizens are only now getting around to watching some of the academy award nominated films of 2010 that excited us. So this week we finally got around watching Audrey Tautou in 'Coco avant Chanel', which was throughly enjoyed. The nomination for Costuming was well deserved and inspired us to post about something we love. Menswear. We love it on men , we love it on women. Coco Chanel was known for having pioneered the use of menswear in designs for women. Menswear inspired outfits are not only practical and comfortable, they can be classic as well as incredibly sexy. Androgyny leaves a lot to the imagination.
Essentials:
  • tailored dress shirt
  • solid color dress pants ( straight leg or slim fit)
Accessories for mix and match:
  • vintage tweed vest (with adjustable strap in back)
  • blazer
  • hat ( bowler, straw, fedora)
  • great leather shoes ( riding boots, oxfords, ankle boots)
  • tie or bowtie
Incorporating menswear into your wardrobe can be difficult at first but with a little bit faith and time it can really open up a whole new way to have fun with your clothes. Come down to MC to find similar looks!
