Hello all you lovely, lovely Model Citizens. I haven't written a blog post in far too long. Luckily Chelsey is really, really good at it, and she is constantly feeding the eyes of our followers with the fruits of our latest (awesome) shoot! So I have been MIA for several reasons- mostly just because my head has been bursting at the seams with creative energy these days. Sampling, researching, sewing, it's great to officially say i'm finito with the Winter Creative Block (or WCB as i've titled it).
So what's been happening? Well the clothing from our latest NYC buy was fantastic! We have had a lot of happy souls leave our doors recently bearing (our brand new and shiny!!) shopping bags, containing pretty Marc Jacobs tops and dresses, Burberry jackets, vintage prom dresses, and designer shoes and boots.
I should also say it's been great to see some of our regular Citizens popping back around. We have missed some of your faces during the dreary days of winter! I also feel like a big THANKS is due to you guys. Thanks for sticking with us, trudging through uncleared sidewalks and dealing with Metrobus strikes- and thanks for spreading the word! We have met many new friends this winter. Visitors from all over, new students, and more (and more) people who have been here for years who are continually hearing about us. It's make us so happy to see new people, and even happier to see them leaving here so excited and pleased. So thanks guys- we appreciate it so much every time we hear a kind word or success store from the store.
So people, stay tuned. There's lots of exciting things going on, and tons of fabulous things to come. Despite the occasional flurries and dipping temperatures, one cannot argue with the calendar. Just being able to say that tomorrow is April is reason enough for me to rejoice. I'm not wearing flip flops yet, but. The time will come. : )
Much lurrve-
ML xo

Derek Lam- How to Rock a Canadian Tuxedo
This collection is both modern and minimalist, but is surprisingly retro, but not in the same way as other collections this spring. It really marries the 70's aesthetic and modernism extremely well and actually comes across and soft, feminine and folky. Like a 70's folk ballad, it is floaty at the surface but has a deeper, more pensive intent.
Jean on Jean
Now, jean-on-jean. Hipsters everywhere have been taking jean on jean to a new level but I think it is a look that can fail miserably. Take care when picking the washes when putting them together and beware of trying to match washes. Try going really light in the wash up top and dark on bottom and vice versa. The idea is to look effortless, a bit tough and feminine at the same time. Opt for loose, cropped shapes on top and tight jeans.

Southern Grit Meets 1990’s Vintage
Spring is roundin' the corner in the retail world and we are shaping our looks for this upcoming season. Today we are going to focus on a mash-up between two unlikely bedfellows: Southern Grit and 1990's Vintage. Think pretty, girly southern belle florals mixed with the in-your-face attitude of the 1990s. Seems unlikely? Let me walk you through this one.
Lets take a soft vintage denim work shirt with a white tank underneath
And add a thin leather belt
and pair with a flowing sheer floral maxi skirt
and top with a floppy beige straw hat
et Volia! Southern Grit paired with 1990's hipster.
Let's do another one:
Cut off denim shorts
2. Billowy white lace tank
add Army boots and a strawbeach hat and you have yourself the look!
