Model Citizens Cocktail Party: Featuring the Delicious Best Kind Bakeshoppe

So something a bit special is happening at our Christmas Cocktail this Friday night. Yes, there will be champagne, yes there will be music and most importantly, a-mazing clothing and accessories from our back room but we are adding a bit more to the mix.

Best Kind Bakeshoppe is a home based business of fab sister duo Jana and Jess from beautiful Port-a-Grave. Best Kind Bakeshoppe is their homage to butter, cream and all that is holy in the sweet world.
With flavours like Blueberry Cheesecake, Mint Chocolate and even maple bacon they are taking their business to new heights, one delicious cupcake at a time.

We are so excited to offer our guests samples of their beautiful creations at our event on Friday night and the girls will be selling their divine creations, just for our customers. Sample as many as you want and then take some home for later.

Nicole is rockin fantastic acid wash vintage skinny jeans, v-neck blondie tee with an 80's cropped butterfly shirt over top. I love this look- although it is a young look, it is rough and rock and roll. It is a great way to make vintage look really contemporary. The viewmaster had a Thriller card in it which made that even more fun to play with. Shot by Brian "Acid Wash" Ricks. Model is the beautiful Nicole Fiander.

This is such a great picture of local actress Jennifer Brown. The big soft bow, coupled with her wild and curly hair is just sweet as pie and such a whimsical look for Spring 2011. Note the sheer, victorian-esque blouse- always a staple for spring- especially this year as the 70's are in full force. Derek Lam- How to Rock a Canadian Tuxedo

Derek Lam has put together on hell of a collection that is entirely reflective of Americana, midwest folk mixed with constructivist modernism and is so beautiful that it has convinced me to embrace the "jean on jean" phenomenon (or as Super Trooper fans like to recall, the "Canadian Tuxedo").

This collection is both modern and minimalist, but is surprisingly retro, but not in the same way as other collections this spring. It really marries the 70's aesthetic and modernism extremely well and actually comes across and soft, feminine and folky. Like a 70's folk ballad, it is floaty at the surface but has a deeper, more pensive intent.

Jean on Jean
Now, jean-on-jean. Hipsters everywhere have been taking jean on jean to a new level but I think it is a look that can fail miserably.  Take care when picking the washes when putting them together and beware of trying to match washes. Try going really light in the wash up top and dark on bottom and vice versa.  The idea is to look effortless, a bit tough and feminine at the same time. Opt for loose, cropped shapes on top and tight jeans.

Boogie Nights~ Sophisticated 70's for Spring

The difference here is this Bohemian look has a trust fund- much more 70's Socialite. This past Fall’s version of Bohemia is seeping into Spring in full force and but this time is luxe to the max. Maxi Dresses, designer leather messenger bags and satchels, crème accents, long silk dresses with clunky Frye/military boots and oh course supple leather jackets. The 70's vibe also includes a sheer neutral palette (creme, blush, grey, mushroom) AND natural, vintage camel colours. But be sure not to forget the 70's Glam in evening wear with shimmery fabrics and plunging necklines. 

And of course macrome, lace and crochet of the 70's- it is back in a big way in day wear. 70's jean dresses and wideleg high waisted jeans are back as well. High neck blouses with big ruffle detailing match with these jeans perfectly. Finish the look with circular sunglasses and a huge wide brim hat and clogs.

One 70's look that is going to be a huge transition for all you fashion forward ladies is changing the helm lines. The skirt helm has gotten so much longer for Spring and I am over the moon about this. Calf lengths are in baby! Begone the super short skirts that only 16 year olds can pull off. This longer helm line is  more mature, sleeker and more chic. Pairing these helm lines with motorcycle boots or sweet sling-backs can make any girl look and feel put together but also that effortlessness that is always so desired. Even us short girls can rock that helm line.

We're Baaaaack!

Hello Hello My Interweb Friends

First of all, I apologize for falling off the map this Christmas regarding posting. I blame all of the merriment that went on this Christmas, it distracted me from the vortex of the internet. But, absence makes the heart grow fonder, right?

We missed y'all so we are happy to be back and have so much to about this season. Look for some great designer features for Spring 2011, styles and looks to rock this season and next, and as always, much more silly things to brighten up your day.
