Golden Globes Worst Dressed 2013

Normally we don't focus on the negative here at Model Citizens but Awards season can be the exception. Now, lets be clear- we are not punishing those who took risks because you can't fault those going out on a limb. We are picking those that we felt just missed the mark and often, played it too safe/boring.

Lucy Liu I hate to rag on you for this one. It was a great risk but I wish this was a short dress with sharp structured cap sleeves and above the knee. This fabric is very Laura Ashley and is a hot print right now but is whimsical, so it needs to be treated as such. It could have been so cool but it was so bad. Also, the print was made for a younger, hipster girl in her 20's (as a short dress, not in its current state). Kudos for taking a risk but boo-uns on the result.
I would normally like this Lea Michelle dress if it wasn't for the horrid faux tan she has. It has the right colour and texture but the barbie-esq vibe to the neck and the slit makes it goofy looking. Also, far too long and makes the outfit seem quite squat, instead of elongating her leg.
Jessica Chastain, I love this choice. I think the colour is wonderful, the loose but minimalistic vibe is excellent and the accessories are great. Why didn't your tailor/stylist catch the oversized nature of the breast area? I am sad you are on this list as I love the dress, it just is not right in the boobs. If something is a bit editorial in nature, be careful as it may not translate in real life. Calvin Klein collection

Taylor Swift's Donna Karan dress ended up on most 'Best Dressed" lists but I feel that it belongs squarely on the Worst Dressed and here is why: the straps and the back. Not only is this dress boring, it is dated in a weird way. The neckline, straps and back is very reminiscent of the late 90's/early 2000's "Friends" era of dress. Of course she wouldn't know because I am not sure she was even born at that time. The train is over-done and the peek-a-boo side is just lame. The colour is a bit on the brown side in this photo and the make-up and hair are really under-done.

Why are people trying to wear dresses that are half bathing suit? Eva Longoria, shame. Short people do not have to do that. I really dislike this dress on so many levels.

Jennifer Lawrence looks beauty and was getting flack for the editorial nature of the madonna-esq breast on this Dior Couture dress but I have a bigger issue: the ballroom skirt starts in a really terrible place. As you make have guessed, I really do not like the ballroom princess skirt but this is just not right. Also, the dress needed to be steamed. It was a big moment for a beautiful girl and I was majorly disappointed. I would be inclined to stick to sleeker looks- like the red Calvin Klein dress from the GG's a couple of years ago.
Sienna Miller, definitely worst dressed. I can't even begin to describe how bad this dress is. What a goofy choice: the flowers and the shape and the colour are ridiculous. She has such great style normally and I am not sure where this even fits on the spectrum of bad choices.

And the WORST dressed of the night goes to Halle Berry (Sienna Miller, I am looking at you- close 2nd)

Britney Spears era, one shoulder sheer graphic gown= epic 2000's fail.
She is a beautiful woman with a fantastic body and she looks like she was plucked from a really bad era of ultra low-rise pants and thongs over pants with short lace shirts. Christina Aguilera circa "Dirty" era: eat your heart out.

Model Citizens Best and Worst Dressed List-Golden Globes 2013

Its the most wonderful time of the year! No, not Christmas-Awards season! The gals below are Model Citizens own choices for the Bets Dressed of the 2013 Golden Globes ! Trends on the carpet? Reds, corals and tangerines were the hues of the night. I like that area on the colour wheel but I am not wild about it on a red carpet. It is a glitzy night and sometimes I think those tones run the risk of being to casual. Soft Pinks and Champagnes are still big on the red carpet, as they have been for years. Don't get me wrong, they are fantastic shades but it is getting a bit boring. Full skirts really made a come back, landing more of them squarely on the worst dressed list. There is something very juvenile about the look. Mermaid dresses were also still very popular, albeit very redundant.

Not a lot of risks taken across the board but these were our favs! We hope there is more glitz and glamour at the Oscars! PS- Tina Fey & Amy Pholer were totally badass hosts.

Claire Danes in Versace and Isla Fisher in Reem Acra: Both of these dresses were stunning. Claire Danes, I have a bone to pick with you. You had a baby in December and you look like that? Isla Fisher- this shimmering delight of a dress puts you on the top of my best dressed list- I adore it.

Megan Fox is really hot. She could wear absolutely anything. I love how she went with a soft pink Dolce and Gabanna dress that was more ethereal than va-va-voom (but yet she still made it hot as balls). Anna Hathaway is wearing Chanel and the stark white really popped on the carpet. That mega-watt smile and the sweet and short hair makes her look less princess and more fashion icon.

The bad-asses of the carpet: Amy Pholer in Stella McCartney and Kate Hudson in McQueen. Not only are these two of our favourite designers her at Model Citizens, these looks were so different and were the risk takers of the night. People are loving or hating Kate Husdon's look and we choose LOVE. The brassy gold on black high neck plunging neckline are to die for and we all know I love a long sleeved dress done right. Amy Pohler: I bow to you. Plunging tux coat and cropped pants- edgy, fashion forward and oh, so chic. Bravo ladies!

I think Kerri Washington is one of the most fashion forward gals in Hollywood. This Miu Miu dress is glitzy, edgy and subtle all at once. I love the colour of the nude and the neckline is beauty. Perfect for the red carpet. Emily Dechanel- love the shoulders of this dress. You look much better than your sister Zooey. We will get to that in our Worst Dressed catagory..

These two gals also took chances: Nicole Kidman is wearing a studded number, strange choice for her but a good one: edgy without being too young and Kristen Wiig effortless chic is enviable.

The Best Dressed of the night goes to...

Julianne Moore!

This Tom Ford dress is absolutely gorgeous. The white and black starkness of the gown and the long sleeves! And leave it to a fantastic red head to finish is all off with a kick-ass bright pink lip. Brave and sophisticated, Julianne Moore rocks my world.

Hot AND Warm this Winter Season: Popover Tops

Top: Marni Spring 2013/Bottom Paul and Joe Spring 2013

One of the biggest trends on the Spring 2013 runways has a place in our blustery winter 2013 wardrobes! Popover tops have always been a fav vintage staple for the non-chalant fashionista and it is awesome to see it making a splash on the runways. We have always loved straight cut sweater (whether it is cropped or long)  in any fabric- sweatshirt, cableknit, cotton or silk- it gives a boxy yet feminine silhouette that gives any gal a "I just threw this on" vibe. Messy Top knot bun, cigarette pants and a  loafer and Viola!
